As a community of yoga teachers and wellness providers, we cherish the bridge between allopathic and holistic realms, walk a fine line when it comes to students who come to us with pain and injuries. It’s not appropriate and we do not diagnose, provide prescriptions, or make claims since we aren’t medical providers. Many students come to us to be well, seeking answers to questions on how to move and be well to avoid injuries and understand the why and how to’s of discomfort and pain. As IPATH teachers we are trained to relieve stress and understand repetitive injuries, overstretching, and the best practices for sequencing. What makes IPATH Restorative Yoga work - we get to the root, or foundation of the problem. IPATH is unique because we get to the foundation after releasing layers of stiff fascial layers. This is a long term holistic solution that will free joints, muscles and bones within the whole body. In other words, we manipulate the foundation (our skeleton) for permanent results.
9 out of 10 people at some point have lower back pain from poor postural habits. As our shoulders slouch, or if you are a side sleeper, then it is likely that you have postural issues. Take an honest look in the mirror. Are your ears in front of the midline of your shoulders? Does your chin lift towards the back wall when you are on your back with no pillows. Do you have scoliosis or sciatica? Is one arm about an inch longer than the other? Do you have pain when you wake up? When standing, is one foot angled outward, instead of lined with the walls? if you have answered YES to at least one of the questions then you most likely have postural issues, that might lead to lower back pain. You are a candidate for IPATH Restorative Yoga.
Comfort is key to this practice which helps relieve stress. We use lots of cushy props to help each person rest supine comfortably. . If you have a dowager hump for example, once you've rested on your back with blocks or a bolster for support, it might be uncomfortable initially., indicating rigidity within the body. We do our best and are trained to relax the body with the breathwork, props and verbal cues. Much depends on your pain tolerance, your posture, and the way you trust your body. Awareness is the key, here. A good example is wearing braces. Braces shift your teeth, much like IPATH shifts bones and soft tissue in the body. Once the body begins to shift, it is important to invite a sense of release by feeling the release as an experience. Some find this reassuring. Overall, when your body begins to realign and release, a sense of ease, and tension is released from the body, most feel completely relaxed enough to fall asleep.
